Estimate what it costs to break a Canadian mortgage before the end of its term, and whether switching to a lower rate saves money. RefinancePro applies each lender's own penalty method for the major Canadian banks and mortgage lenders: the greater of three months' interest and the interest rate differential (IRD) for fixed rates, and three months' interest for variable rates. Comparison rates come from the Bank of Canada. Give the new rate you were offered to see the interest saved until maturity, the new monthly payment, the net savings after the penalty and switching costs, and how many months it takes to recover the penalty. Results are estimates for information only; your lender sets the exact penalty. RefinancePro does not store the figures you enter.
