Use this when the user explicitly asks to create, update, reorder, or delete a named Collection Variant on a branch. Base is virtual and cannot be mutated. sourceVariantId creates a bounded inheritance chain; null inherits directly from Base. Use the returned revision for the next write.

mutate_variant

Use this when the user explicitly asks to create, rename, update, move, reorder, or delete a group on a branch. Create and update support group type, deprecation plus reason, extendsGroupId, and namespaced extensions. A group name is one segment: spaces are allowed, but "/" is reserved for hierarchy and must be represented with parentId. For a top-level create, omit parentId or send null; for a move to top level, omit targetGroupId or send null. Never use a collection ID or invent a root sentinel. For delete, choose the requested strategy explicitly.

mutate_group

Use this when the user explicitly asks to set or reset one sparse token value on a named Collection Variant. Actions are setValue, setAlias, setExpression, and reset. Omit fieldKey for a primitive $value; provide a Base composite field key for composite tokens. reset removes the override and restores inheritance. Expressions use $[token-id] references and color functions lighten, darken, adjustLightness, adjustChroma, shiftHue, mix, and alpha. Cross-library aliases require an exact immutable release selector.

The server re-authorizes and canonicalizes values, aliases, pins, and category units.
