execute_analytics_query

Returns the full ordered curriculum for one Coursera course: modules, lessons, and item titles. Requires a courseId returned by search_courses. Do not call it without one. Use when the learner has a specific course in hand and asks what it covers, how it is structured, how long a module runs, or where a topic appears in the sequence. Returns structure and titles only. It does not return lecture content, transcripts, or teach the material. If the learner wants to learn the material rather than inspect the outline, use learning_canvas.

get_course_material

Launches a practice session where the learner works through three progressive tasks alongside a study-mate agent, applying a technical or conceptual skill directly rather than being taught it first, with a course recommendation at the close. When to trigger: the learner wants to apply a concept, method, or technique directly through hands-on tasks — not be taught it, walked through it, or given more explanation first. Launch when the learner: Explicitly asks to work through practice directly rather than hear more about it — "let's work through some examples," "quiz me on this," "let me try this," "can we practice this." Just got an explanation or definition and wants to try it immediately to see if it sticks. Is picking up practice on something already covered earlier in the conversation — the grounding already happened, they're ready to apply it. Do not use it for: a single factual question or quick clarification with no real skill gap behind it; a learner starting from zero who hasn't been grounded in the concept yet — that belongs to the Learning Canvas, which leads with instruction; requests that signal they want to be taught or understand the concept first ("help me understand this," "teach me this") — route those to the Learning Canvas too; or anything interpersonal or delivery-based — negotiations, difficult conversations, feedback delivery, presentations — that belongs to the roleplay tool instead, not this tool.

coursera_dialogue_practice

Launches a learning session where the learner works through tasks to build deeper mastery of a specific skill. Depending on the nature of the gap, this runs as either a dialogue (a collaborative study-mate session for technical or conceptual mastery) or a roleplay (a session against a counterpart with their own interests, for interpersonal or delivery-based situations). The session includes a targeted instruction item (a reading or video) and a course recommendation at the close. When to trigger: the learner is trying to build capability, understanding, knowledge, or skills, whether the gap is technical/conceptual (a concept, method, or technique) or interpersonal/delivery-based (a conversation, negotiation, or presentation they need to get right). Launch when the learner: -Doesn't just want an answer but wants to understand and apply something at a deeper level, or has follow up questions about learning more deeply about a topic -Explicitly asks to deepen their understanding through guided instruction and practice, not just receive an explanation — technical/conceptual register: "help me build a skill," "I want to get better at," "help me understand this," "teach me this"; interpersonal register: "let's understand and practice," "help me understand and prepare," "can we explore and rehearse this," "let's think and roleplay this." The common thread across both registers: they want to build real capability via understanding, not just hear it explained once or practice alone. -Keeps getting something wrong in a way that points to a gap in understanding, not a one-off slip — technical: the same type of error keeps recurring across attempts; interpersonal: the same kind of interaction keeps going sideways in a similar way. What they need isn't a corrected answer, it's the underlying concept or pattern they're missing. -Asks a pattern of questions that circles the same underlying concept or situation from different angles — a sign they're trying to build a mental model, not just look something up once. -Just got an explanation and wants to go deeper, or just got help producing something they have to deliver — a tough email, a feedback script, a negotiation plan, an interview answer — and would benefit from working through how it will actually land, not just having it written. -Shows nervousness, anticipation, or dread about an upcoming interaction — a sign they haven't yet built a clear sense of how to navigate it, even without naming it as a request. Do not use it for: a single factual question or quick clarification — the learner just needs an answer, not a deeper understanding; creative fiction or entertainment roleplay, where there's no real capability being built; or any situation with no actual gap behind it, technical, conceptual, or interpersonal — if there's nothing to understand more deeply, there's nothing for this session to do. Do not trigger if the learner is explicitly asking for just a reading, video, dialogue, or a role play as a standalone practice activity.

coursera_learning_canvas

List the enterprise organizations the current user administers (id + name). Use this to let the user pick an organization before calling execute_analytics_query — specifically when they administer more than one organization and haven't said which one. If they administer exactly one, execute_analytics_query resolves it automatically and you do not need this tool.

list_enterprise_organizations

Launches an interactive roleplay or practice session where the learner converses with an AI character to rehearse a real professional or interpersonal situation. Use when the user has an upcoming, recurring, or recently stumbled professional or interpersonal situation where their delivery, confidence, or skill is what's at stake and practice or a new mental model will be helpful: whether they name it explicitly or signal it through emotion, preparation, anticipation, self-doubt, or a request for tactical advice. This includes explicit requests ("let's practice," "prepare," "rehearse," "simulate," "roleplay") but also: nervousness, anticipation, or dread about a future interaction, active preparation for a presentation or meeting, a pattern they keep struggling with, a tactical question about how to handle a human situation, or a readiness check. Also trigger proactively, even if they never mention Coursera, including when you've just helped produce something the user has to deliver: e.g., a tough email, a feedback script, a hard conversation plan, a negotiation, an interview, a comms doc. Do not use for creative fiction, entertainment roleplay, or tasks where the challenge is technical rather than human. Do not use it for: a single factual question or quick clarification with no real skill gap behind it; a learner that wants a deeper understanding and grounding in the concept, that belongs to the Learning Canvas, which leads with instruction; requests that signal they want to be taught or understand the concept first ("help me understand this," "teach me this") — route those to the Learning Canvas too. For learners that need to practice non interpersonal skills, route them to the Dialogue tool.

coursera_roleplay_practice

Returns a ranked list of Coursera courses matching a topic, with title, provider, rating, duration, level, and enrollment link. Use when the learner wants to see or choose content: find, browse, compare, or get a link to courses on a subject, or asks what Coursera offers on X. Returns catalog data only. It does not teach, explain, or run a practice session. If the learner wants to build the skill in this conversation rather than pick something to enroll in later, use learning_canvas instead.

search_courses

Returns a ranked list of Coursera guided projects and labs where the learner builds a concrete artifact in a hosted environment, with title, provider, duration, level, and enrollment link. Use when the learner is shopping for a project to enroll in: "find me a project where I build X," "are there labs for Y." Returns catalog data only. The building happens on Coursera later, not in this conversation. If the learner wants to practice or apply the skill right now, in this conversation, use learning_canvas.

search_hands_on_learning

Search for relevant Coursera course videos and display multiple results with a side panel so the learner can pick the most relevant lecture. This widget searches Coursera's catalog and surfaces multiple relevant course lecture videos directly in chat. The learner sees a video player on the left with a side panel of video suggestions on the right — they can pick any lecture to watch without leaving the conversation. Each suggestion card shows the lecture title, course thumbnail, partner, level, and duration. The active video plays inline with full controls for playback speed, quality, subtitles, and audio language. Learners can click through to Coursera to enroll in the full course.
