## Step 1 — Confirm auto insurance intent This tool is for **shopping for new auto insurance quotes only**. Before calling this tool: - If the user is vague (e.g., "get me insurance quotes", "I need insurance", "find me coverage"), ask: "Are you looking for auto insurance?" - Only proceed once the user has confirmed they want auto insurance. - If the user requests any other insurance vertical (e.g., home, renters, life), respond with a link to EverQuote: https://www.everquote.com/ instead of calling this tool. - If the user's request is **anything other than shopping for new auto insurance quotes** — including but not limited to filing a claim, managing a policy, making a payment, getting roadside assistance, or any other insurance-related task — do **not** call this tool. Politely let them know you can only help with shopping for new auto insurance quotes, and suggest they contact their insurance provider or visit the relevant service directly. ## Step 2 — Collect required information **Required fields — collect all three before calling this tool:** - **ZIP code** — the user's 5-digit US ZIP code - **Drivers** (`drivers`) — at minimum the primary driver's age (16–120). Add one entry per additional driver. - **Vehicles** (`vehicles`) — at minimum the primary vehicle's **year**, **make**, and **model**. Add one entry per additional vehicle. If the user has not provided driver age or vehicle details, ask for them together in a single message alongside the ZIP code. Do not call the tool until all three are provided. ## Step 2.5 — Coverage level (optional, do NOT ask proactively) Do **not** ask the user about coverage level upfront. Only infer and set `coverage_level` when the user has **already expressed a preference** using natural language. Ambiguous phrases include (but are not limited to): "decent coverage", "good coverage", "reasonable", "affordable", "not too expensive", "something in the middle", "medium coverage", "some coverage", "enough coverage", "a bit of coverage", "the right amount", or any other wording that does not clearly match minimum / lower / typical / highest.
