Fax.live

Use when the user provides a public PDF link and wants to check fax eligibility, page count or estimated sending cost before sending. Downloads and validates without submitting a fax. Supports PDFs up to 30 MB and 250 pages. Large files or slow hosts may take a couple of minutes; tell the user before calling. Do not ask users to publish private documents to obtain a public link.

check_document_by_url

Call at the start of a fax-send workflow, before requesting or processing a document. Checks whether the account has a fax number provisioned. If not, stop and tell the user upfront using the returned informational homepage. This does not provision a number or send a fax.

get_account_status

Use when Fax.live tool calls fail or the user asks whether the service is available. Checks service health to help distinguish an outage from an account or request problem. Requires an authenticated account. Does not send a fax or modify the account.

get_service_status

Use when the user wants to check an uploaded PDF's fax eligibility, page count or estimated sending cost, or before reusing an uploaded document. Provide its Fax.live fileId, or omit it to list current uploads. Reports expiration, validation results and estimated cost when available. Uploads expire after about 24 hours. Does not send a fax.

check_document

Use when the user asks about their Fax.live account's billing, accrued usage, monthly base fee, next billing date or payment-method status, or when explaining a billing-related error. Billing is usage-based: the usage balance represents unbilled charges, not prepaid funds. Returns the connected account's billing summary. For a document-specific estimate, use check_document or check_document_by_url instead.

get_balance

Use when the user asks whether a specific fax was delivered or to track a fax after submission. Requires a Fax.live faxId. QUEUED and SENDING are in progress; SENT and FAILED are final. Returns destination, page count and timestamps, plus the failure reason when available.

get_fax_status

Use when the user asks about past Fax.live charges, invoices or billing history. Lists the connected account's invoice summaries newest first, including date, description, amount, currency and status. Supports date filters and pagination. Does not return invoice download or payment links.

get_billing_history

Use when the user asks about previously sent faxes, their most recent fax, faxes sent during a date range, or faxes sent to a particular number. Lists the connected account's faxes newest first with destination, delivery status, page count, timestamps and failure reason when available. Use the returned faxId for a status lookup. Supports filtering and pagination. Interpret 'this week' as the current calendar week in the user's timezone.

get_fax_history

Use when the user wants to send a PDF by fax to a US or Canada number through their Fax.live account. Start with get_account_status. Before calling, confirm the document and destination and explain that sending is billed and cannot be recalled; include page count and estimated cost when available. Provide either an unexpired Fax.live fileId or public PDF fileUrl, never both. A URL is downloaded and validated before submission, which may take a couple of minutes. QUEUED is not delivery; track the returned faxId with get_fax_status until SENT or FAILED. Only one fax can be in progress per account; send to multiple confirmed recipients sequentially. Do not blindly retry an uncertain send; check history/status to avoid duplicates.

send_fax

Use when the user provides a PDF attached or selected in ChatGPT and wants to prepare it for faxing through Fax.live. Import using the host-provided file object, not a local path. Checks number provisioning before downloading; stops with an informational homepage if no number is provisioned. Accepts PDFs up to 30 MB and 250 pages. Returns page count and a Fax.live fileId valid for about 24 hours. Uploading does not send a fax. Use the returned fileId with check_document or send_fax; never substitute ChatGPT's file_id or download_url. For expired attachment links, ask the user to attach the PDF again.
