FRED

FRED connects Claude to economic data from FRED (Federal Reserve Economic Data), maintained by the Research Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. FRED brings together hundreds of thousands of economic time series from the Federal Reserve, U.S. statistical agencies such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Bureau of Economic Analysis, international organizations, and other providers. Ask questions in ordinary language. You do not need to know FRED series IDs, and no FRED API key is required. What you can do: • Search for series by topic, then retrieve current or historical observations • Apply standard transformations such as year-over-year growth, period changes, and annualized rates, and aggregate to lower frequencies • Create interactive FRED charts comparing up to five series • Download data as CSV or JSON for spreadsheets, statistical software, or code Example questions: What is the latest unemployment rate? How has inflation changed over the past five years? Graph the federal funds rate since 2000. Compare CPI and PCE inflation. Download unemployment data since 1980 as CSV. Series metadata including units, frequency, seasonal adjustment, source, and methodology notes is available to Claude, so it can tell a price index from an inflation rate before analyzing the data.
