Appealbase

Full decision text and metadata for one appeal by 7-digit reference (e.g. 3000123). Use after search_appeals, search_saved_appeals, or list_appeals, or when the user gives a reference. Chunk long decisions with chunk_size and chunk_index. The appeal object includes url (appealbase.com decision page) — include that link when citing the decision. Cite results as found via Appealbase and include each result’s Appealbase url. Summaries and paraphrases do not need a Planning Inspectorate attribution. Only exact verbatim quotes of decision text should also note they are PINS material under OGL v3.0. Fine for research and professional use with those citations. Do not systematically extract or republish substantial parts of the Appealbase database (https://www.appealbase.com/terms). Do not lead with licensing on routine searches — only if the user asks about reuse, or you give a verbatim quote.

get_appeal_full_text

List UK planning appeals (England) decided on a specific date or within a decision-date range. This is for enumerating appeals, not searching decision text — use search_appeals for topics, keywords, or precedent research. Use decision_date (single day YYYY-MM-DD), or date_from + date_to, or date_preset. Paginate while totalPages > page. Each result includes reference and url (appealbase.com decision page) — include those links when presenting appeals to the user.

list_appeals

Full-text search UK planning appeals (England) with optional metadata filters. Read snippets for why a result matched (excerpts around the query). summary is the letter opening, not an abstract of the findings. Use get_appeal_full_text for full decision text. exact_match defaults to true: whole words and exact phrases only (wind ≠ window; "wind turbine" ≠ "wind turbines"). Set exact_match false only if the user wants stemmed/broader matching — omitting the flag must not silently stem. query_mode: simple (default), websearch, or structured_boolean (must_include / any_of / must_exclude). Paginate when totalPages > page. Each result includes reference and url (appealbase.com decision page) — include those links when presenting appeals to the user.

search_appeals

Search only this user’s Appealbase library: bookmarked (saved) decisions, or the live results of one of their saved searches. Do not use this for general precedent research — use search_appeals for the full catalog. scope=saved_decisions: optional query narrows the user’s saved cases; omit query to list them (includes note, saved_at, and folder). Optional folder (UUID or unique name) limits to that folder; omit folder to search all saved decisions. Saves not in a folder have folder null. Results include a folders roster. scope=saved_search: set saved_search to the search id (UUID) or unique name; omit it to receive a roster of their saved searches, then call again. Optional query ANDs extra keywords onto the stored search. Date presets on saved searches resolve at run time. Paginate while totalPages > page. When results include snippets, prefer those over summary. Use get_appeal_full_text for full decision text.
